American Icon Brewery Review
Just before Matt and I decided to start our blog, and share our visits to craft breweries, we had the chance to spend a weekend in Vero Beach for the Sunshine State Eggfest 2018. Matt was checking out places to go Friday night, and he mentioned a converted diesel engine power plant, turned brewery. Sounded like quite the interesting place, so we headed over for an American Icon Brewery Review.

UPDATE: After 2.5 years, we finally headed back to Vero Beach for a weekend getaway. So, of course we went back to American Icon Brewery to see what’s new. See below for which new beers we got to taste.
Where is American Icon Brewery Located?
American Icon Brewery’s Historic Building

The Diesel Power Plant was built in 1926, and is now part of the US National Register of Historical Places. Being a lover of historic places, there’s just something about being inside this restored building. The Decor is all industrial, brick, and much of the original floor plan remains, which adds to the originality. The power plant was built along side the FEC Railway, therefore it allowed us the opportunity to witness a train pass the large windows as night fell. This was pretty cool to watch. Almost felt like we had stepped back in time.

The Beers of American Icon Brewery

Their taps flow with plenty of their own brew. I indulged in the 1926 HEF, and Matt enjoyed the Diesel Plant Pale Ale. UPDATE: Our flight consisted of Diesel Plant, Icon Haze, Oktoberfest, Florida Heat, Blueberry Wit, and Peach Bum Berliner Weisse. Matt still liked the Diesel Plant, and was happy to be there in the fall for their Oktoberfest. The Florida Heat is described as a little sweet, sour, and spicy, with hints of blood orange. The heat is so mild, and kind of addicting! We both liked the Florida Heat.

As for me, I had a tough time deciding between the Peach and Blueberry. If you like any fruity beers, these were some of the best I’ve had. I even texted pics to my sister to brag about them.
Does American Icon Brewery Serve Food?

There is a full menu, but we decided to snack on the fresh pretzels, served with beer cheese. It can be tough to find great pretzels, but these definitely passed the test! UPDATE: We had a pretzel again. Now they no longer serve pretzel sticks, they serve full blown large pretzels.
Final Thoughts of American Icon Brewery
You can find live music being performed in the outdoor seating area. To check events they have going on, you can find them on their Facebook Page. Loved how this place is a mix of history, architecture, brews and atmosphere. Totally worth checking out, even if you’re not a beer drinker.
