Yellow Dog Eats Review

With so many great places to eat close to home, we don’t typically venture away from our area. When we’re already out away from home, we take opportunities to try new places. So, traveling home from Orlando on a Saturday morning, Matt suggested Yellow Dog Eats. I was not familiar with Yellow Dog Eats, but Matt had suggested it to friends quite a while back. Now it was our turn to try it out, so here is our Yellow Dog Eats Review!!

Couple sitting at Yellow Dog Eats

On our way to Yellow Dog Eats, we realized they don’t open until 11:00am, so it was perfect timing for us to arrive at 10:58!!  We were their first customer of the day, but it didn’t take long for this place to fill up!!

deli counter with sides and beer bottles

There are only a couple parking spots out front, but plenty of parking in the back. If you come in the back, you can walk through to the front counter to place your order. You can find a seat, and listen for your order name to be called over the speaker to pick up your order.

Also, you have the option to find a seat, and a server will come take your order at your table. We chose to sit in the covered outdoor seating area.

First Impression of Yellow Dog Eats

As we walked up from the parking lot, and approached the VW Bus, I had to take a selfie!!

Walking into the outdoor seating area, we instantly loved the vibe. The beach theme, mixed with 60’s & 70’s mixes so good together. Over the sound system, they were playing all 60’s & 70’s music!

Staff is super friendly, and several workers checked in on us during our visit. Impressive, since this is not the industry norm.

What We Ate At Yellow Dog Eats

Holy Crap sandwich from Yellow Dog Eats with coleslaw and bag of chips

Matt had the Holy Crap. Originally a weekly special, it soon became a favorite. Multi-grain bread, filled with honey mesquite roasted turkey, avocado, pecan-smoke bacon, goat cheese, red ones, and basil mayo, then pressed. Turkey is not typically what Matt would choose, but he thought “What the heck, turkey sounds good.” Not to mention, the name Holy Crap caught his attention. With the first bite, Matt was very impressed. The combination of ingredients worked well together.

Mr Smokey sandwich at Yellow Dog Eats with beer glass, and chips

I went with the Mr. Smokey, which is pulled pork, smoked pineapple slices, crispy fried onions, pecan-smoked bacon, and Fish’s Gold BBQ sauce. I’ll admit, I was a little nervous when I saw the BBQ sauce was yellow, because I am not a mustard person. So this is not a BBQ sauce I was usually choose, but I have to say, I LOVED it!

After eating a couple bites with a fork, I decided to pick it up, delve in, and take a bite. Let’s just say, it can be a bit messy! I’m not a big bun person, so I think next time I’d get this without the bun.

Desserts & Drinks At Yellow Dog Eats

Two beer pints on table

With a couple of bars, both inside and out, Yellow Dog Eats has lots of brews on tap. And even more in bottles and cans to choose from.

deli display filled with baked goods

Plenty of handmade desserts fill a display case in the main ordering area. The almond joy brownie, and oatmeal raisin cookie sandwich are the two we decided to take home with us, so we could share with the girls.

What Else To Know

Chef owner, Fish Morgan, attended the Culinary Institute of America, and is known for his natural ability to create a unique eating experience. Not only does Yellow Dog Eats smoke bacon, pork, and may other things on location, but they also pride themselves on using 15 varieties of locally grown greens.

Front of Yellow Dog Eats Restaurant

Yellow Dog Eats is now 20 years strong at their original location of historic Gotha, FL, in the 1910 Brockman House. Their intent is to reflect their own personal character, just like the original owners of this place,. Back during a time when our country was graced with stores, as unique as the owners. We feel they have succeeded in doing so. You can read more about the history HERE.

Or you can find them at the New Smyrna Beach, FL location when visiting the East coast.

We would love to go back for an evening and enjoy some love music, which is offered Thursday through Saturday at both locations.

Be sure to follow them on social media for daily specials on the menu.
