Only Tip You Need to Visit Galaxy’s Edge

Of all the changes/additions to Walt Disney World over the past decade, Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge is by far the most anticipated for our family. I still have very vivid memories from that summer back in 1977. The shopping for movie snacks, and choosing circus peanuts, remember those?? Heading to the drive-in, yes – the drive-in, with our neighbors. The feeling of watching Star Wars for the first time. Falling in love with the characters, the story, and wondering what would happen next.

Little girl dressed as Princess Leia with Queen Amidala

Then, in 1999, the revival of the Star Wars saga began. This time, we’ve been able to share with our own girls. Again, we were drawn back into the lives of our favorite characters. Over the past 20 years, the stories evolved, gaps have been filled, and new galaxies have been explored. With the explosion of interest in Star Wars, comes traveling to Galaxy’s Edge!

So…….

What’s To Love About Galaxy’s Edge

Star Wars Land Fighter ship

Aside from all the small things, there only needs to be ONE BIG reason to LOVE Galaxy’s Edge……

The immersion into a whole new galaxy!!!

Let no detail go unnoticed!! From the moment you step through the tunnel, you are walking amongst the stars.

There’s no talk of the “real world” as you interact with cast members. In fact, they may not know what Star Wars even is.

Our #1 TIP

Allow yourself to become part of the experience.

The more you talk with the locals, the better your experience on Batuu, and beyond, will be. Galaxy’s Edge is unlike any other land, in every other park. It’s meant to be an overall, interactive event. For example, ask to learn about the language. Here’s what we learned:

Bright Suns = Hello

’Til the Spires = Goodbye

Rising Moon = Hello (in the evening)

Some Things You May Notice While Visiting

You may not find photographers, but there are plenty of Hydroscanners to help document your journey.

Dollars are conveniently, and equally, exchanged for credits to make your necessary purchases.

Milk is blue and green. Very popular among the locals, courtesy of The Bubo Wumba Family Farms. We decided to try both choices.

Glass of blue milk at galaxy's edge

Blue milk is fruity sweet along the lines of blue raspberry. This was a thumbs up for all 4 of us.

Glass of green milk at galaxy's edge

Green milk has citrus and floral tones, kinda like mango. I really liked it. Jo was the only one who didn’t really care for it.

Paper bag of red and purple popcorn with Star Wars bottle of Coke

Popcorn is red and purple. Tastes a little fruity, with a hint of spicy. Drinks may come in bottles that look like hand grenades.

Cast members in Batuu Star Wars Land

Locals may be curious about you, and even question who you are, and where your loyalty lies.

Star Wars costumes in store

Even though you can purchase local attire, you won’t be allowed to wear it while visiting. No one wants to get you mixed up with the locals.

Our First time on Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run Rider POV

If you decide to take a Smuggler’s Run, be careful with Chewy’s ship. He has lots of eyes watching what happens. Or you could even run into him yourself.

Be on your best behavior, and keep watch for Storm Troopers. They are on constant patrol.

Final Thoughts

Your experience will be what you make it. Let go, and allow yourself to take it all in. Knowing Disney, I was not at all shocked at how authentic it felt.

Beau was the best cast member. He first accused us of destroying Chewy’s ship. Then he sent us through the Fast Pass line to “redeem” ourselves. After riding again, he was there to ask how we did. Our interaction can be found on the First Peek video.

There are many more features, such as the Play Disney Parks app, that weren’t part of our preview day. Adding this into the mix for things like interacting with door panels and droids, scanning contents of crates to collect virtual souvenirs, translating Aurebesh, tapping into satellite dishes to listen in on locals’ conversations, playing Outpost Control, having added options while in the rider cue, and effects may be triggered within the land. How fun will that be??

Been to Walt Disney World lately? Here’s our visit to Toy Story Land.

Hmm…flavored milk? I think a few of our kids would have fun with that and then want to recreate it at home!
Looks like our kids will really enjoy this when we head to Disney very soon.

Oh my gosh!!! This is one of the reasons I hate living in the middle of nowhere, too far away to enjoy stuff like this. It looks like a fun adventure. I would probably swoon!

I’m glad you got to enjoy the preview! We went to Galaxy’s Edge in Disneyland in June, and we had a blast. It’s hard to take everything in, but we certainly tried. In a couple of years, I hope we get to try the Hollywood Studios version!

Love immersing myself in the experience! That’s why I dress up for Disney. Do I need to watch all of the Star Wars movies again to know what’s going on?

So much fun. I love the food that goes along with the theme. I sent my kids to school with cereal for lunch on April fools day one year, the milk was blue. They loved it so I’m sure they would love this food too.

Just a heads up, Harry Potter is at Universal Studios not at Walt Disney World (a common mistake).

I scored ressies to Oga’s Cantina for Labor Weekend. We were invited to the pass holder’s preview, but I am in Alabama for something else and could not make it work. I was afraid we would not get in unless we were up at 3:00 am. I can’t wait to see it and just soak it all in. Like you, I grew up with Star Wars, played it as a child with my sister and cousins, and squeal with delight when a new movie comes out. It is going to be epic.
